and wayfinding
The wayfinding for the Krannert Performing arts Center is designed to reflect the colors, boldness, and vibrancy of the banners and playbook. I chose to incorporate the yellow in the wayfinding, alongside the blue, purple, and orange that was present in the banners.
During this stage I wanted to create the banners as a reflection of my culture, and what I see when traveling to Chicago. Since this project was very descriptive with the sensory experiences I wanted to transform the words visually. In the pattern Incorporated drums to reflect the beats that I would hear on Michigan ave. I wanted the pattern to be vertical to reflect the buildings of downtown Chicago. I wanted to expand on the color palette, so I decided to add purple and brown in addition to the blue for the background. I made the background a darker value so the subject matter could stand out in the foreground more.

I started my research by creating a random story filled with sensory words and adjectives to come up with the name of the Krannert theme. The storyline captured many visual, audio, and other sensory words when visiting the city of Chicago that helped me come up with the name Rhythmic boulevard. I used adjectives to describe the feeling when walking through streets such as Michigan Ave. and hearing the sounds of street drummers on buckets. Which is how I came up with the sound of Rhythmic Boulevard.
Following the storyline I used Pinterest and google images for inspiration. I knew that I wanted to have an afro futurist theme, vibrant colors, and patterns to reflect my Nigerian and African American culture. I decided to start with the patterns which I took inspiration from West African fabrics that consisted of geometric and organic shapes, a combination of soft and hard edges, and vibrant colors.
